The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) is reminding Missouri public school districts of the timeline for the Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act (160.077, RSMo). Starting January 1, 2024, schools were obligated to: - Create an inventory of water outlets used for drinking, cooking, and cleaning utensils used for cooking or eating.
- Create a plan for testing those outlets for lead and make the plan available to the public.
- Provide general information on the health effects of lead contamination for employees and parents.
Starting August 1, 2024, or the first-day students are present, whichever is the latest, schools are required to: - Complete testing of drinking water for lead concentrations.
- Complete remediation of any drinking water outlets exceeding five parts per billion lead concentration.
